Refinement, Stage 1
Tough week!
Learned the hard way the importance of very carefully and thoroughly wrapping up a sculpture. Went to work this weekend and discovered the clay on the arms had hardened up just enough that it couldn't be salvaged. So, major surgery!

So, some re-work was in order before moving forward.
I corrected some proportional issues first, but then did attempt to focus on planes, planes, planes. Definitely struggled to find the right tool/technique for this that didn't just leave a bunch of ugly marks and slop behind. I can clearly see some good sculpting exercises in my future: planar torso, Asaro head, etc.











And lastly, I did indeed recycle some of the reclining figure clay, but for purposes of illustrating why one should seal the board underneath with kilz, I give you this:
