DS6 - GDS MODELING 801: WEEK 1

Initial posting for the semester:

I got a slow start on my thesis after Midpoint and burned a Group Modeling DS class creating some very sub-par first iterations of base meshes and trying to pose them strictly using Transpose. Misery!! I decided to take a break and backtrack a bit, taking a number of more traditional-sculpture-oriented DS classes before really getting going on it last semester.

Working with Tareq last semester I made some very good progress, particularly on nailing down the pipeline:

- Created all new base meshes for the male and female.

- Learned a new IMM process for generating better meshes more quickly in zbrush.

- Finalized and detailed both base meshes.

- Learned zsphere rigging and posed up Hercules and Atlas.

- Created final hard surface geometry for the base and cup components.

- Learned enough Marvelous Designer to create cloth pieces for both characters.

- Created eye geometry and hair sculpts for both characters.

- Invested a ton of time on corrective anatomical sculpting.

The IMM Base Mesh primitives created in zbrush:

From these I generated the final male and female base meshes:

The male model was then detailed out in zbrush:

From there I built the zbrush rig and posed up the first piece involving two male characters:

I did some rudimentary study into Marvelous Designer to generate the cloth pieces and then created the hard surface pieces for the goblet cup and base in Maya:

From there, exhaustive zbrush detailing and corrective anatomical sculpting:

Moving forward, I will be starting this week with detailing out the female model in zbrush, then moving on to designing the second piece and posing up those characters. I'd like to do some more 'tailored' garments in Marvelous Designer for most of the figures in that piece, so there's some R&D to get through there.

Lots to do!

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK

This is a great start. Is your plan to 3D print this one?

If you need help with how to make one of your models production ready for printing I would be happy to help.

I saw that you wanted to learn Rhino, did you ever start using it? Its a great program to prep files for printing.
