DS5 - GDS MODELING 801: WEEK 4

Thesis Progress

Per our discussion, this week I put together some better anatomical reference for my base meshes, these cobbled together from 3DTotal as suggested:

I finished grafting on the head, hand and foot topology from my original female model model then went about overhauling her in maya using the new reference as a guide to fix some proportions. And boy were there some fixes needed!

Then I went back to the male figure and fixed a few of the things we discussed Monday (clavicle, extra geometry in shoulder / underarm.) With the new reference, I thinned him out and fixed some proportions here as well. Mainly he was just too beefy and his head size / position were off.

I'm pretty happy with these, but we can discuss any further tweaks needed tomorrow before committing to zbrush.

I started working through the zspheres rigging workflow as well. This is DEFINITELY going to work better than straight up transpose!

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK

Great reference images. I had not seen the male version. This one is good reference too.

Female looks much better. The overall proportions look good. But, give me orthographics or at least change the camera focal length to 85mm. This is difficult to see the proportions with the distortion of the 35mm lens.

Same thing on the male. 85mm lens please. The upper arms look a bit big relative to the reference. Look at better defining the rear deltoids, shoulder blades and connective muscle groups along the neck and upper back.
