DS5 - GDS MODELING 801: WEEK 7

Good Progress this week

Spent some time working on detailing out the hands and feet -- so time-consuming!

Also created a new eyeball model and re-worked the eye area. Hopefully it's looking better:

I also spent some time properly polygrouping this model:

At long last, on to zsphere rigging. This actually went pretty well indeed. I made several mistakes along the way that caused the rig to flip out but I was able to backtrack and generally guess what I had done wrong. It's actually pretty simple and forgiving a process, certainly preferable to just transpose tool. Here's my rig:

I did run into one issue -- how to pose these characters against an object or other character. Transpose master takes all the subtools and creates a low-poly proxy into the rigging process; I certainly didn't want to rig the goblet model or bind to the other character mesh...

Working from older images on my laptop I did these preliminary poses:

Converting back to subtools, issues are abundant and obvious. So while the posing is faster, the cleanup remaining is quite daunting:

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK

Fingers look a bit thick. Narrow them a little. Nails could be better defined.

Feet look good. You just need to add the veins on top of the hands and feet for detailing over the tendons.

For the head, could you post a front/side/3qtr from now on so I can really see what's going on in the face. Looks good, though. Ear looks better too.

Kneeling figures's pose looks a bit awkward. We can talk about it today. I think the arms need adjustment at the shoulders to really work. If it's a pose you can't comfortably do yourself, it won't feel right here either.

Hercules pose looks better, but that left pec is stretching too much.
