DS3 - ANM 375: WEEK 12

Third Project: Phileas Fogg

I've been playing around with doing a take on Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days for a number of years. For this last sculpture I'd like to attempt my stylized version of Phileas Fogg.

I took a digital painting class as an elective a while back and did these paintings:

I guess you could say that I've been working on this concept for a long time! I'll be really excited to see Phileas come together in three dimensions. It'll be a great way to really work through his details since my drawing skills are really so poor.

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK

these are great! just make sure to do a profile view- which will be a big help for the sculpt

Phileas Fogg

Not much to look at yet, but his armature is super-solid. Learned a lot from the Penny debacle a few weeks back and spent extra time making sure the structure was solid and double-wrapped everywhere. He's also got the removable rear support member which he definitely is going to benefit from given his top-heavy anatomy:

I added a side view to his model sheet and am leaning toward giving him a bit more girth around the middle. I really like the 'fat' face and it just doesn't work without a little pot belly to with, though not so much as the side view has. I do like the contrast of the spindly legs with the big torso. Still not sure on the pose though. Current rig is still flat like model sheet; will nail down a more interesting pose by next week.

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK

you might want to try playing up the opposing angles in the hips/shoulders/head

good start- always good to go long on the arms then cut back what you dont need- instead of being caught short
