DS3 - ANM 375: WEEK 5

Made some good progress on Bernard this week. Cleaned up a lot of shapes and smoothed out some bumpy / lumpy areas. Cut back the ear size per last week's feedback. Tried to push the pose more off the center line and make the expression more exaggerated. Also did some experimentation on the eyes issue. I wound up going back to the craft store and buying a small block of black clay that I used to punch the eyes. Thoughts? Else I think the only fallback is to carve them out as deeply as possible.

I also did some work to build a small photo setup so that I can take better and more consistent photos at precise angles. More on that in the other discussion topic.

Photo Setup

One of the minor issues I've had is how to photograph my sculpture from consistent angles. I've been using my cell phone so far, but I wanted more of a 'turntable' setup with a fixed camera position to better compare angles and potentially shoot portfolio images.

I spent some time this week putting together a little mini photo studio so that I could take more consistent photos. I found a cheap lazy susan at home depot and attached it to a wood clock face I found on sale at Michaels for 4 bucks. I drew some angle lines on the top and set up a little backdrop. The backdrop and stand is part of the "Macromats" miniature photo studio; a friend of mine developed it (plug) and it's a cool little package with stand, multiple wrinkle-proof backdrops and clips.
