DS2 - ANM 694: WEEK 7

Assignment 7.1: Eye & Brow Shapes

Assignment 7.5: Final Midterm model submission & 5 main expressions:

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK

Good to see your latest progress.

Brow shapes - generally leaning towards a subtle movements. Animators generally want wider range of expressions.

Eye shapes - look good but again can benefit from more range. The closed eyelids have a sharp line is this something you found with the reference? It looks odd. Wide eye shapes also don't look correct but does show more range than some of your other blend shapes.

INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK, MIDTERM MODEL

Initial take of these expressions is you can push them further. Animators don't want blendshapes that are subtle. Actors and animators want the range. Good idea to push it as far as you can without distorting these expressions into a cartoon. Also since this is based on a real actor there's the constraint of what is his range and making him look correct to these expressions.

Surprise - doesn't look sufficiently pushed far enough.

Sad - mouth looks like a crying expression. Sad can gave open eyes. Corners of mouth downwards, The "triangle" of upper eyelids. Inner parts of eyebrows raised and pulled together.

Joy - expression shows intersection of lower mouth to inner mouth geometry. Have eye expression that shows "Crows Feet' wrinkles around eyes. Cheeks raised, lips corners raised diagonally. Muscle around eyes tightened.

Fear - this looks exaggerated but not realistic mouth shape is stylized. Eyebrows should be raised and pulled together. Raised lower eyelids.

Disgust - nose wrinkled, upper lip should be raised. Can have open mouth disgust.

Anger - eyebrows down and together, eyes glare, narrowing of the lips. Open mouth is optional.
