SUNROOM PROJECT PART 2: FRAMING

Construction on the sunroom started this week. We had issues getting the quality of lumber we wanted for this project, so I wound up re-designing the finish a bit and updating the schematic to account for the new final window sizes, the minor electrical bits (plugs and ceiling fan,) and now mostly white painted exterior. We decided to glass in the triangular side areas rather than fill with painted paneling. The eaves will be painted brown to match the rest of the house and the lighter brown beams noted below will be stained to match our other redwood structures. The color is very similar to the brown paint, but some of the nice wood grain shows through for a more organic look:

Initial framing:

Doors, windows and roof installed. The large triangular areas to be filled with solid glass. We elected to do a standard asphalt shingle roof to match the rest of the house. All the panels and doors are 8' tall.

The ceiling interior is tongue-in-groove cedar planks painted white, and we installed two fixed skylights:

Matching sets of windows on the east and west walls ensure a nice cross-ventilation during the summer:

Still some clean-up and flooring to be done, as well as installation of ceiling fan and electrical outlets.
